Welcome to 2007! We're still around, more active recently on our new PS3 site
located at www.BRDGen.com. Since this also applies to PSP users, below is the
latest update mirrored from there:
Just a brief update today- in the PS3 BRDGen Chat Forum it was suggested that
a PS3 SFO viewer/editor would be handy. We have decided to share a simple
stand-alone utility dubbed SFO-Edit v1.0 that currently supports both PS3 and
PSP PARAM.SFO extension files. Cheers!

UMDGen v4.00 is now available on the UTiLiTiES page! Oh, and Happy Holidays!
Another year has came and went, what will 2007 hold in store? We won't tell! :D
Please post any new issues in our UMDGen Chat Forum, and we will do our
best to address them as we find time. UMDGen is always a work-in-progress,
so rest assured our goal is to constantly improve it with fixes and new features.
v4.00 Changes:
- New layout
- UMDGen now displays information from UPDATE\PARAM.SFO as well as
PSP_GAME\PARAM.SFO
- Optimize button added. This function automatically detects and resizes
dummy data, removed un-needed padding and dummies the contents
of the UPDATE folder (if detected)
- Non-PSP standard images can be forced to be read by the user. Upon
detection, UMDGen will let you know the image is non-standard and
you can choose whether to continue and have UMDGen attempt to read
it - *NOTE* depending on the individual image, this could cause UMDGen
to close if it encounters data it isn't expecting - but the general rule is
if the PSP can read it then presume UMDGen can too.
- UMD_DATA.BIN file generator. If your compilation is missing this file
then UMDGen gives you the oppertunity to create a new one.
- Ability to change "PSP_SYSTEM_VER" in PARAM.SFO to different firmware
version. (Use +/- key while version is selected)
- 'Drop Open' images re-introduced due to a lot of requests to re-add it
to UMDGen.
- Complete CSO + DAX support. You can now edit compressed images
the same as uncompressed images. Dax support now includes the use
of Non-Compressed areas feature.
- 'Ezip' format removed. We didn't think it was worth keeping this
format since it only had very limited support anyway.
- 'Dummy File' option added as requested by many users.
- v3.50 still had trouble with one or two problem images. A lot of code to
do with the reading/writing process has been restructured and these
problems should now be fixed.
[.:: 2006.08.04 ::.]
UMDGen v3.50 is now available on the UTiLiTiES page! Although it doesn't have
the new feature we mentioned added just yet, rest assured it contains many
updates and bug fixes-- a full changelog from the ReadMe is available below.
Please post any new issues in our UMDGen Chat Forum, and we will do our
best to address them as we find time. UMDGen is always a work-in-progress,
so rest assured our goal is to constantly improve it with fixes and new features.
v3.50 Changes:
- ISO generation code has been completely re-written and it now a lot more solid.
There shouldn't be any more "problem games".
- ISO properties dialog box added. From here you can change build date/time,
volume label etc.
- More ISO formats supported - Now supports CiSO, Dax, and Ezip!
Note: Ezip support is limited to Opening and creating filelists.
- Batch Converter added. Drag and drop ISOs into the batch converter, select
the format you wish to convert them all too and sit back while UMDGen converts
every item in the list. Convert from ISO/DAX/CSO to ISO/DAX/CSO.
- Relink code re-written. When opening an image which contains relinked items
the files will remain relinked even after further modification of the ISO. You
can now also relink files in the Layout Viewport - This can make relinking
easier without the need to switch from one folder to another.
- Sector View expanded. You can now view files which have been added from your
hard drive in sector view - you are no longer limited to viewing the hex of
existing files in the open image.
- Dummy Search expanded. Dummy search now also checks files added to the
compilation from your hard drive.
- File List import expanded. When importing file lists you now have the option
to force LBA - this option, if selected, will not only place all files in the
correct order but also match the filelists LBA positions when possible.
Importing file lists with relinked files is now also supported - any relinked
files in the list will automatically be relinked in the compilation.
- UMDGen File Association - You now have the option of associating PSP images
(*.iso, *.dax, *.cso, *.ezip) with UMDGen - if associated, UMDGen will automatically
open the ISO when double clicked in windows explorer. Because UMDGen is a PSP
image editor only, you also have the ability to allow UMDGen to redirect non-PSP
images to another application (eg IsoBuster) - when non-PSP images are detected
by UMDGen it will automatically redirect the image to open elsewhere.
- Help file added to answer some of the more common questions.
[.:: 2006.06.09 ::.]
UMDGen v3.02 is now available on the UTiLiTiES page- it's another bug fix
release, but be sure to check back soon as the next version will support CSO
compression / decompression and also a new feature we have been working
on that many PSP users will find quite handy... no hints just yet though! ;-)
Please post any new issues in our UMDGen Chat Forum, and we will do our
best to address them as we find time. UMDGen is always a work-in-progress,
so rest assured our goal is to constantly improve it with fixes and new features.
Changes:
- Drag and drop error fixed. A dropped item would not always be added to
the correct folder and instead be added to the parent folder.
- Renaming Label error fixed. Sometimes after renaming the volume label
the ISO would be rebuilt incorrectly.
[.:: 2006.05.02 ::.]
UMDGen v3.01 is now available, not to be confused with v3.00.1 which is the
v3.00 release on the UTiLiTiES page. So anyway, go grab UMDGen v3.01 now!
Please post any new issues in our UMDGen Chat Forum, and we will do our
best to address them as we find time. UMDGen is always a work-in-progress,
so rest assured our goal is to constantly improve it with fixes and new features.
Changes:
- Extracting from VCDROMx images now extract from the correct location.
- Drag and drop error fixed (in v3.00.1)
[.:: 2006.05.01 ::.]
Hooray to all!!! UMDGen v3.00 has finally arrived for a public release!
If you head over to the UTiLiTiES page, you can get UMDGen v3.00 now! :-)
Be sure to read the ReadMe file, and post any v3.01 issues in the UMDGen Chat Forum.
nJoy folks, and THANKS to all of our PSP supporters!
[.:: 2006.04.24 ::.]
UMDGen v3.00 is progressing nicely; additional new features below:
- Another BETA UMDGen v3.00 ScreenShot to illustrate updated icons.
- Now includes Accelerator (shortcut) Keys.
- Disable/Enable MPath/OptionalPathTables - This is an advanced feature
that has only been added for users that complain that the first file location is
too high because it is in a lower position in a VCDROMx generated iSO (as they
don't use OptionalPathTables) - but UMD compliant iSOs do, but since VCDROMx
images work it's now included as an option.
- Hide Files and Folders - Right-Clicking and selecting Hide will completely hide the
selected files/folders from the iSO header.
- Dupe checking File/Folder names - Previous versions would allow files/folders with
identical names to be added to the same folder. If you drop a file into the UMDGen
window which has duplicate name a messagebox will appear asking if you want to
replace the original file.
- PPF Patching is now built-in - for individual files as well as complete iSO patches.
- Added a 'Debug Console' to advanced options - this will help with any problems
users may have. It will log various actions, and it will hopefully aid us in finding the
root cause.
- Added the ability to simply drop an iSO into the window to open it. This will only work
if UMDGen 3.00 is in Reset Mode (New compilation)... otherwise the iSO is added as
a file to the compilation.
- DAX Compression is being worked on (hopefully) to be included in 3.00 as this
seems to be a popular feature request.
- User Feedback & Feature Requests: please post them in our UMDGen Chat Forum.
There is no estimate on when UMDGen v3.00 will be publically released yet, however,
we are testing the BETA builds daily, and with the exception of the DAX Compression
everything else is already integrated and working nicely so it shouldn't be much longer.
[.:: 2006.04.10 ::.]
UMDGen v3.00 is now in the works; current new features below:
- Displays the ICON0.PNG as illustrated in this BETA UMDGen v3.00 ScreenShot.
- Provides more Game Information including Title, Disc ID, Parental Level, Disc
Version, Firmware (based on the PARAM.SFO file), Region, Size, and more!
- Includes a sector viewer (view as Hex) useful for PSP developers.
- Supports the latest version of VCDROMx Images (as well as future versions).
- Supports alternate methods (also right-clicking) of adding files/folders without
drag and drop (for those having issues with v2.01) and renaming files too.
- Includes an overall "Windows Explorer" feel and basic functionality. For example,
you can now change the view from DETAILS (default) to ICONS or LIST format.
- User Feedback & Feature Requests: please post them in our UMDGen Chat Forum.
[.:: 2006.03.14 ::.]
After a few months rest, we have once again updated UMDGen... to v2.01!
It includes minor bug fixes, and a UMDGen.ini file that is user-selectable for
compatibility of PSP images containing up to 100,000 files large. As a result,
it can now handle PSP images including TalkMan and Ys: The Ark of Napishtim.
What are you waiting for? Head over to our UTiLiTiES page to get UMDGen v2.01!
[.:: 2005.12.21 ::.]
First and foremost today... Happy Holidays to our visitors from Team UMDGen.
Today we have, as our gift to you, the much-anticipated UMDGen v2.00 utility!
If you head over to the UTiLiTiES page, you can get the latest revision now. =]
In addition to the numerous new features detailed in our previous news updates,
we have also included in UMDGen v2.00 support for PSP UMD Movie Images and a
built-in Firmware Version Detector (see screen capture below for examples of this).
Now end-users can open -> modify -> save their compilations without the need
to extract/drag-in files first, and know which FW version the title requires to run.
Enjoy, and we will catch everyone in 00110010 00110000 00110000 00110110!
[.:: 2005.12.02 ::.]
Some brief updates today on UMDGen v2.00 progress... Combined View pic below :)
- Open existing PSP (including VCDROMx) Images: UMDGen v2.00 will
automatically re-calculate LBA positions to UMD standard positions and
remove excess padding. For example, the Infected iSO size is 562MB,
when opened in UMDGen v2.00 the iSO size is 538MB.
- Edit existing PSP Images: Delete folders/files, relink files, update/replace
files, add new files/folders, move file LBA positions.
- Extract iSOs: Extract the entire iSO, or select Files/Folders to extract them.
- For PSP RipKits: Create iML/iMS Files from both existing and new iSO images.
- Automatically converts VCDROMx Images to correct UMD Format when saved.
- Uses UMD-compliant padding for files that can be switched On/Off now.
- Compatability is looking NiCE, every iSO we tested thus far now works. ~_^
[.:: 2005.11.28 ::.]
Work has begun on our next BiG update- namely UMDGen v2.00! ;-)
New UMDGen v2.00 Features/Updates will likely include the following:
- Ability to open an existing PSP iSO and make any changes before saving as a
new iSO file. Not only will this save end-users precious time not having to extract
the iSO and then rebuild, but it should also remedy iSO mounting user issues.
- PSP file padding procedure will be amended (based on $ony's official PSP Game
MasterDisc v0.3.0 utility), so UMDGen v2.00 will pad more accurately to reflect this.
As a result of this correction, the rebuilt PSP game compatability should increase.
- Ability to switch the viewpoint from the usual (Directory/Layout) to a combined view.
The Directory view will reside at the top, and the Layout view directly underneath.
- User Feedback & Feature Requests: please post them in our UMDGen Chat Forum.
[.:: 2005.11.17 ::.]
Just a brief fix-only update today, props to dkr for the report. Changes include:
- Time Format reverted back to a Date Format in v1.01, now fixed.
- Publisher Field was also being used as the Copyright Field in v1.01, now fixed.
What are you waiting for? Head over to our UTiLiTiES page to grab UMDGen v1.02!
[.:: 2005.11.15 ::.]
If you head over to the UTiLiTiES page, you can get the latest revision- UMDGen v1.01!
A BIG thanks to all the users who have left their comments and feedback which
enables us to make this tool better. UMDGen v1.01 New Features/Updates include:
- Added 'Project' workspace - now you can Save/Load projects.
- Added 'Relinking' - Relink un-needed files to save more space.
- Added the ability to change Date and Time of iSO creation.
- Added the convenience to delete folders from the Folder Tree.
- Re-structured the way UMDGen stores file/folder information in memory
- result is better success rate with rebuilt iSOs.
- Re-coded drag and drop routine to accept Windows compressed folders.
- Other minor code modification for overall smoother running.
[.:: 2005.11.02 ::.]
Just some minor news for our visitors today... over the past few weeks we have been
working on squashing the Windows compressed files and folders issue. Users can expect
the next version to also offer a greater success rate with iSO images, as a lot of the
code has been re-written to date. It may also include a Re-Linking and Load/Save
Project option if time permits- so exciting stuff. Finally, we would like to publically
THANK the Japanese magazine iP! for introducing UMDGen to Japanese Windows
users via CD-ROM, and for offering to handle all future UMDGen updates. ^__^
[.:: 2005.09.24 ::.]
Some cool news today... Dark Killer has released the World's first PSP RipKit that
is designed to work with PSP UMDGen v1.00 for Socom Fire Team Bravo BETA. As
time goes on, hopefully more end-users will gear their RipKits towards UMDGen, and
be sure to use our UMDGen Forum to chat about anything pertaining to UMDGen. THX!
[.:: 2005.09.19 ::.]
Welcome to UMDGen.com- Create PSP "Universal Media Disc" compliant iSO images.
If you head over to the UTiLiTiES page, you can grab the initial release- UMDGen v1.00!
PSP UMDGen currently supports importing FileList.txt files and exporting iML/iMS files.
Future updates will likely include features such as File Relinking (ie: you can drop an
entire game into the window, relink Pad0 to Pad1, and it will immediately show the
smaller total size) and also the ability to Save/Load Projects along with support for
'hidden' files. $ony will likely start doing this in future PSP titles, so the ability to add
files to the iSO that don't show up in the TOC may indeed prove useful at some point.
Finally we will review feedback on the UMDGen Forum from users and resolve any open
issues or fix any bugs reported, as well as consider upcoming version feature requests.
Below are some screen captures of UMDGen v1.00:
